‘Graacher Riesling Feinherb’ 2018 by Schaefer
Young, vibrant, off dry and rare from an extremely famous Father and Son Mosel duo.
Rich and aromatic with fine acidity.
The Schaefer family are no strangers to Graacher with history dating their vine ownership from as far back as 1590. Today it is run by Christoph and his wife Andrea who took over from Christoph’s father Willi back in 2015.
Willi had taken over from his parents back in 1971 and built up a fine international reputation.Christoph began working the four hectares of 100 year old Riesling vines with him back in 2004. The vines are worked naturally, with care, touch, taste and feel rather than data and spreadsheets. The individual picking of the plots are determined entirely by taste and can take several weeks for all the plots to be harvested. Fermentation is by natural yeasts in mainly old oak casks with as little intervention as necessary. Long lees aging and late bottling produce a spectacular Riesling of great purity and balance which is in huge demand.
