This semi-soft cheese has a beautiful rich buttery flavour with a characteristic orange washed rind which takes just 4 weeks to mature. The structure of the cheese depends on the milk and the season. Slightly firmer in the spring and summer when the cows are out grazing the clover and creamier for the rest of the year.
We discovered Baronet at the Frome independent market in Somerset and just had to share it. Climbing up the crowded cobbles of Catherine Hill past a stall selling this interesting reblochon style cheese, there was already a customer being served so I tried some. I earwigged on the story behind it and could not resist buying some of this punchy little washed rind cheese.
Julianna and her husband create this amazing cheese in the grounds of Neston Park near Atworth using creamy organic Jersey cow’s milk sourced from the dairy less than 100 meters away.
